CBS Corp, a toy maker and several retailers were sued after an asbestos awareness group from California alleged asbestos was found in the companies’ “CSI: Crime Scene Investigation” toy crime-scene kit, based off of the popular CBS television show. The lawsuit claims laboratory tests revealed large quantities of tremolite asbestos, one of the most lethal forms of asbestos, in the kit’s fingerprint dusting powder. The group also argues Planet Toys Inc, the New York based manufacturer of the product, failed to warn customers of the kits’ hazardous material, as required under state law. They are seeking a court order to stop the sale of the product unless they have a warning label on the kit and also want consumers of the product to be able to return the kit for a complete refund, as well as civil penalties.

Planet Toys pulled the kits from shelves late last year because of the asbestos awareness group’s claims, however, their own tests have not shown any asbestos in the powder. The company has issued a “stop sale” announcement for the kit on their website until further information can be found to solve the discrepancy.  http://www.reuters.com/article/televisionNews/idUSN1141698220080414
