A teenager is in critical condition after a car accident on Thursday, when her car slid into oncoming traffic.

The 17-year-old girl was heading south on Virginia 43 when her 1988 Honda Accord crossed over into the northbound lane and collided with a 1997 extended Chevy Silverado, Virginia State Police say.

The girl was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the accident and was airlifted to Lynchburg General Hospital where she was then flown to the University of Virginia Medical Center in Charlottesville.

The man driving the Chevy was also taken to Lynchburg Hospital but he did not suffer serious injury.

An investigation is ongoing and charges are still pending at this time.
